Meet the Maker

Cultural Roots Nursery is a South and East Asian heritage nursery, growing vegetable, herb and tree starts that are significant to our respective communities. Our mission is to increase the availability of these culturally relevant plants, strengthen the local food system, and empower communities to reconnect with their ancestral foods. We aim to use our platform to empower people to grow their own food, and to raise awareness of Asian traditional food ways by connecting heritage foods to the stories of immigrants and first generation Asian Americans.

About your kadipatta:

Known as curry leaf trees or as Murraya Koenigii, kadipatta plants are beautiful and ubiquitous additions to many South Asian and diasporic homes. They're often considered the most essential herb and houseplant for any South Asian kitchen. While these plants are notoriously finnicky when grown in North America, your plant comes with endless tips and knowledge of how to keep 'em healthy! With your kadipatta plant, you get access to our Kadipatta Care Community on Discord! You'll have access to head horticulturalist Zee, who has been growing these kadipatta planties from seed.

Care:

These plants are around 9 months old. After you receive your plant, you can repot it into a slightly bigger pot and fertilize every other week for the rest of the summer. They can either be left outside, somewhere with morning and mid-afternoon sun, or indoors on a sunny windowsill. Mist often and water when soil feels dry. When the nighttime temperatures dip down into the 40s in the Fall, bring the tree back inside.

Shipping Information:

The Kadipatta plants will ship separately from any spices ordered! Your plants come to you in a 3.5" pot and will ship on Mondays and Tuesdays until mid-May or until planties run out! There is a 4 plant maximum for orders due to shipping constraints. If you want more than 4 plants, you will need to place two separate orders.

Shipping Costs:

  • 1 plant - $8

  • 2 plants - $12

  • 3 plants - $15

  • 4 plants - $20

Replacements:

If for any reason you are not satisfied with the condition that your plant arrives in, please send a picture of the plant within a maximum of 2 days of receiving your order so we can take the steps to correct this. All plants must still be in the original nursery pots to be eligible for a refund.
