Turmeric gets its health benefits from curcumin—a naturally occurring compound that’s also responsible for its golden color. Our turmeric has a high curcumin content (4.7%) because it’s grown from 100% heirloom IISR Pragati seed.
We are adamant about our single varietal AND single origin quality standards, unlike most commercial turmeric powders that can be a blend of several different varieties and harvests.
When compared with turmeric that is often up to 7+ years old, and has lost any significant curcumin content due to its natural release of oils over time, ours is a guaranteed same-year harvest to preserve that very volatile oil content and therefore its potency and effectiveness.
How much Diaspora Co. turmeric should I being taking to get those benefits?
For memory function, attention abilities, and anti-inflammatory benefits:
⅔ tsp two times daily
For chronic pain:
1 and ¼ tsp three times daily
How should I take it?
When consuming these quantities for health benefits, it should always be taken:
Alongside a pinch of black pepper
The piperine in black pepper can increase curcumin’s bioavailability (aka help your intestine absorb it instead of metabolizing it before you get those benefits) up to 2000%. We don’t recommend you eat enough black pepper to get up to 2000% (it takes a lot), but enough to increase bioavailability by 100% which would be around one pinch of black pepper.
Heated and/or with a good fat.
“Good” meaning a healthy fat such as milks, nut milks, coconut oil, or ghee. Heat and fat make the turmeric more soluble and increase absorption in your intestine.
Haldi doodh, also known as a “turmeric latte,” verified and made by mothers and grandmothers across India for generations, does all this in one easy drink. We recommend to drink 1-3 cups a day depending on what health benefits you need. We’re big believers in moderation.
We do NOT recommend:
Taking it by itself
Taking it in capsule form
IV drip or whatever other odd ways people are finding to consume turmeric
Our guess is that folks taking it in these ways are pooping it straight out and experiencing a placebo effect. 💩

Increasing Curcumin’s Bioavailability
Pepper, which contains piperine:
Recommended dosage: 0.02g of piperine per kilogram of body weight
Piperine content in average black pepper: 5%
Translated dose for 50kg woman and 2000% increase in bioavailability: 20g of pepper for daily 3g turmeric
*We don’t recommend taking this much black pepper! Rather than a 2000% increase in bioavailability, shoot for a 100% increase by taking 1g of black pepper alongside the daily 3g of turmeric.
Heat increases the solubility of turmeric and therefore the bioavailability of curcumin by 3x.
Curcumin is hydrophobic, meaning it doesn’t solubilize in water, but it is amphiphilic, meaning it solubilizes in fat. When turmeric is more soluble, it is more easily absorbed into the intestine instead of immediately being metabolized.

Dose according to study: 90mg of curcumin twice daily for 18 mo.
Translated dose for Diaspora Co. turmeric: 1.914g turmeric taken twice daily / 0.64 tsp taken twice daily
Dose according to study: 8g of curcumin daily, in capsule tablet form
Translated dose for Diaspora Co. turmeric: 57 tsp daily
* We don’t recommend taking this dosage. The study also discloses that the 8g capsule of curcumin taken daily by subjects had poor absorption and limited bioavailability. We suggest taking moderate doses (1-2 tsp, twice daily) with black pepper, and heated in fat to increase absorption instead of consuming large quantities by capsule.
