How to grind pepper

Add in your Aranya Black Pepper and turn the head of the mill clockwise only. Turning back and forth can pull peppercorns upward instead of pushing them into the mechanism.

Meet the maker

We’ve spent years testing pepper mills, different materials, mechanisms, and designs, in search of the perfect match for the world’s best pepper. We finally found it. Before they became an iconic car brand, Peugeot first became legendary in the kitchen, engineering the world’s most trusted pepper mechanisms for over 150 years. Today, they continue to craft their mills in France, combining heritage steelwork expertise, sustainable woods, and thoughtful design to elevate everyday cooking. Their patented technology preserves the sharpness of the blades and protects against corrosion, ensuring a perfect grind, and a joyful cooking moment, every single time. We’re proud to bring this icon into the Diaspora Spice Co. family.

Why did you choose this pepper mill?

As professional spice slingers, we’ve been product reviewing pepper mills for years, trying out different materials, grind mechanisms, and styles to arrive at the perfect one.

Most cheap pepper mills have plastic or ceramic grinding mechanisms that tend to yield a dull crush (we also try to limit plastic in our supply chain as much as possible, so this option was a no-go). On the other hand, mills with a metal exterior often cost a precious penny (aka hundreds of $$)! Then there are the super stylish, artsy mills that look amazing, but are truly hard to hold and use. We were on the hunt for the perfect goldilocks pepper mill: one with a non-plastic exterior, and a well-crafted metal mechanism on the inside, that’s still fairly accessible in terms of price. FINALLY, we found the Peugeot Pepper Mill. Manufactured at a beautiful facility in France, these mills are made from sustainably sourced beechwood from PEFC™-certified French forests, and feature a precision steel mechanism that you can adjust for grind size.

It feels great in your hand, is easy to use, AND is a bright, distinctly Diaspora addition to your kitchen! We’ve been selling the world’s best pepper for 5+ years, and now we finally have the mill to match it!

How do I use my pepper mill?

To grind properly, turn the head clockwise only. Turning back and forth can pull peppercorns upward instead of pushing them into the mechanism.

Why should I grind fresh pepper instead of just using pre-ground?

Keeping pepper whole helps to preserve its essential oils and flavor. Freshly-ground pepper unleashes dramatically more aroma and depth. Choose your grind based on flavor effect:

Fine → develops heat & intensity
Coarse → reveals aroma & texture
Medium → offers a balanced finish

How do I clean my pepper mill?

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth only. Avoid any harsh cleaning agents!

Is the pepper mill durable?

Yes. It’s built with aprecision steel grinding mechanism that carries a lifetime warranty, plus a 5-year warranty on the mill body.

How much does the pepper mill weigh?

The pepper mill weighs 9.6 oz, is super comfortable in the hand, substantial enough for stability, and easy to maneuver.

What makes this mill special?

Iconic silhouette loved by chefs
Crafted from sustainably sourced French beechwood (PEFC-certified)
Steel mechanism engineered specifically for pepper
u’Select system with six precise grind settings
Lion-embossed top knob
Lifetime mechanism warranty
Signature yellow and pink colorways that brighten up your kitchen!

What can I grind in it?

You can grind whole peppercorns, dried coriander seeds (up to ¼"), and pepper blends containing no more than 25% red berries to avoid clogging!

Does it have adjustable grind settings?

Yes! The u’Select ring at the base lets you switch between six consistent grind sizes, from fine to coarse.

Does pepper go rancid?

Whole peppercorns do not typically go rancid, but they can lose aroma over time. Store your mill away from heat, sunlight, and humidity.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes! Our key markets include the US, UK, Canada & Europe!

How often will I need to refill it?

Thanks to the larger body size, you can grind more and refill less frequently which is ideal for everyday cooking!
